Premier Cooperative always strides to provide our customers with the most comprehensive services and resources to help our members have the most healthy and productive herds and flocks. Therefore, we have added two new employees to our feed sales team. Please help us welcome Dr. Zach Sauer, our new Poultry Veterinarian & Nutrition Consultant, and Dr. Kristina Weld, the new Strategic Dairy Account Specialist.
Dr. Zach Sauer, hailing from McGregor, Iowa, received his B.S., M.S., and D.V.M., from Iowa State University. Early in his career, he decided to devote his professional career pursuit on becoming a poultry veterinarian. He has much experience in the poultry field including working as a research assistant for an avian genetics and immunology laboratory (layers and broilers), an international biologics company (vaccine development), and Hy-Line International (one of the industry’s leaders in layer genetics). Zach’s research with Hy-Line soon developed into a master’s thesis project in preventative medicine which essentially means that he received training in the study of population-based medicine (very applicable to modern poultry production). His research led him to present and network at various regional and national poultry organization conferences and meetings. He also spent considerable time with some of the country’s most elite poultry veterinarians on preceptorships and posting-sessions. Some examples of such experiences included spending time at Purdue University (Indiana), private veterinary consultation and even experience with regulatory medicine (USDA). Within Zach’s 7 year experience at Iowa State University, he has gained valuable industry knowledge in turkeys, ducks, pheasants, pigeons, small backyard flocks (hobby/show birds), and commercial layer and broiler chickens. In addition to nutritional support, some examples of skills Dr. Sauer can provide include flock health checks, vaccine regimens, necropsy, proper diagnostic sampling and submission and management advice by request.
Dr. Kristina Weld grew up in Massachusetts where she received her B.A. in Biology from Mount Holyoke College. After finishing her bachelors, she moved to Wisconsin to spend a summer interning at Kellercrest Farms. From there she went on to study dairy nutrition and physiology at UW-Madison where she received her M.S. researching milk fat depression and then PhD researching transition cow fat metabolism in the Purina Fellowship program. Kristina is the very first UW-Madison Purina Animal Nutrition PhD Fellow. As part of her fellowship, she was stationed at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center in Gray Summit, Missouri, where she collaborated with Purina staff for 8 months, focusing on collaborative UW- Purina transition cow research.
Please help me in welcoming our two newest staff members. The addition of Dr. Sauer and Dr. Weld to our current team  will help reinforce our vision of being the feed supplier of choice.
