Propane Snow

January Update

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and that 2021 finds you well and in good spirits. It’s kind of nice to see 2020 in the rearview mirror. Have you decided on your new year’s resolution(s) yet? My resolution is to make better bad decisions. Here’s to 2021!

Let’s start 2021 off right and talk about safety. Remember that if you replace a propane appliance such as ranges, ovens, water heaters, clothes dryers or furnaces, you are required by law to call your propane supplier so that they can perform a leak test and inspection of the work. If you have replaced a propane appliance and haven’t yet had it tested, call your local Premier Energy location today. We have found leaks in the piping as well as the new appliance itself. The same goes for change of occupancy. If you have moved into a home recently and get your propane from us, call us for a leak test.

Speaking of appliances, the water heater rebate program through the Wisconsin Propane Education and Research Council has money available. The rebate is $200 per water heater. If you replaced a water heater or installed one in new construction in 2020, go to this page or call your local Premier Energy office for a rebate application. I’m on the WiPERC board and we voted to extend the rebate another year until December 31, 2021 or until the funds run out, so get your application in early. In order to qualify, the new water heater needs to be a propane water heater. Electric, natural gas and fuel oil water heaters do not qualify.

If you are interested in contracting your diesel needs for next year, contact your local Premier Energy location to see what we can do for you. Last spring the markets turned upside down and often the contracts were higher than the spot market. Yet the contracts were still a good bargain compared to previous years. Who saw Covid19 coming and the price destruction it would reap on the energy markets? My advice is that if you are happy with the price at the time that you can write the contract, go ahead and lock it in. At least you will know what your price is so you can put that into your budget. If you see high diesel prices, then you know there is a higher probability that prices will drop. Low prices mean a higher probability that prices will increase. When you throw Covid19 in the mix, anything can happen.

In addition to propane, diesel and gasoline, we also sell lubrication products like engine oil, hydraulic fluids and greases. Cenex lubricants are some of the best products available. Cenex does a great job of keeping their lubricants up to date so that they meet the latest requirements. It looks like there will be an increase in pricing early next year so get your order in as soon as possible. We handle lubricants in various sizes, from quarts to bulk orders.

As I’m writing this we are about to experience our first winter storm. I know that folks get worried when winter storms come but please understand that our staff gets overwhelmed with additional calls in the two or three days before a winter storm. If you call in for your propane, please don’t expect us to speed up the process to get a delivery to you at the last minute before a storm. Our routes are planned out several days in advance so order your propane when your tank is at 30% so we can plug it into the route. Some of the driveways get downright treacherous. If our propane truck can’t get up your driveway chances are the firetruck or ambulance can’t either. If you haven’t cleared a path to your propane tank, please do so.

Thank you for your business and have a great month
