Dispensing Propane Autogas Testimony

Jan 12, 2024

Per WPGA:

This week in the State Capitol, both the State Assembly and Senate transportation committees heard testimony on self-service dispensing propane Autogas by removing the training requirement.

WPGA's Cheryl Lytle & Tim Lease, Premier Co-op & WPGA Board member, testified in support of Assembly Bill 491 on Tuesday in the Assembly Transportation Committee and on Wednesday on the companion bill, Senate Bill 768, in the Senate Transportation Committee.

In their testimony, Cheryl and Tim encouraged the committee to support the bills, which would allow the public to self-service dispense propane Autogas similar to motor vehicle fuel dispensing. WPGA is encouraging the committees to pass the bills quickly, allowing them to be scheduled for votes before the full Assembly and Senate prior to the end of the Legislative Session in March, 2024.

Spring has officially sprung. Those April showers didn’t just bring May flowers. It brought in calls to the energy division that flooding on some of our customer’s property tipped over their propane tanks. The first thing propane tanks do when the water gets high enough for them to float is roll over. This rollover can allow liquid to reach the vapor valve. The last thing you want coming through a propane line and traveling to your house is propane liquid. It can cause a pressure surge, which over-pressurizes the piping, regulators and appliance valves. This can cause leaks and a potentially very dangerous situation.
