Diesel Tank

April 2024.

I was caught in a snowstorm coming back from a hedging meeting in Inver Grove Heights, MN on March 26th. It was nice to see that someone is getting a little winter this year. By the time I got to Wisconsin Dells, all of the snow and ice clinging to my truck was gone and I was back in spring weather again. While our propane sales decreased this year, the bright side is that our wear and tear on our vehicles, equipment and employees declined as well. There’s always next year.

Speaking of next year, propane contracting is coming up again in June. Energy prices have been volatile, to say the least. Propane prices increased over the winter so if you contracted your propane last year, chances are you came out ahead again. When you speculate on market movements, that’s when you can get burned. Being consistent is the key. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. As a wise sergeant once told me, hope is not a course of action.

We’re going to change things up a bit this year by offering to send you a propane contract via email. Go to www.premiercooperative.com/subscribe to sign up to receive your contract via email. You’ll beat the rush and get your contracts earlier than the folks who use snail mail. If you do not sign up for an emailed contract, you will receive your contract via mail in June.

This time of year we are working diligently to get new tanks installed and tanks that were dropped off in the winter are being set permanently. If you have some service work to be done, please give us a call and we’ll get you on the schedule. If you have to shut your tank off for any reason, such as replacing a propane appliance, please call us when the work is done so that we can leak test the system. It’s the law. In addition, if you’re replacing an appliance or building a new home, contact us to find out if we can get you some incentives.

If you are a farmer and are interested in talking to us about diesel, give Shane McCully a call at 608-504-6281. He can tell you about our premium diesel and our contracting offerings. With our Cenex Fieldmaster, studies have shown that you can get 5% better fuel efficiency and 5% more power than a typical #2 diesel fuel, which is just another name for fuel oil. Do you know what your diesel provider is selling you? Cenex injects their additive package at the proper rate at the terminal in McFarland. They don’t put the additives in a coffee can and toss it on top of the fuel oil in the delivery truck and then call it premium diesel. Your machinery costs too much to run an inferior product through it. We also sell Cenex lubricants. Shane can fill you in on our various lubricant products too.

I hope you had a great Easter with your families. Thank you for your business and we’ll talk again in May.

As we finish out the year, most of you have completed a successful harvest, spending many hours in the combine or grain cart. During that time, you likely reflected on a few different things. The first thing being how your crop progressed from seed to harvest. You may have considered factors such as stands, emergence, early season weed control, insect impact, nutrient deficiencies, and nitrogen loss. During harvest, you might have noticed issues like rootworm damage, stalk quality, weeds, and disease pressure. The big question is whether these factors affected your yield and how to improve your crop management next year. There may be many answers to that question but one that we can offer is to contact your Premier Cooperative Agronomist. With training, field experience and technology our team has the knowledge and resources to help achieve your goals next year.

I’m writing this newsletter the week of Thanksgiving. I hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving Day with family and friends. I spent last weekend sitting in my tree stand that I affectionately call the Iron Maiden. It isn’t named after the rock group but the medieval torture device. I didn’t get a deer, but I sure got a sore back.
