Lumber Team

Meet the Team.

Happy Spring from your team at Mt. Horeb Lumber Do It Best. Before you know it, the grass will be green and building season will be here. At Mt. Horeb Lumber Do It Best, we’ve been getting ready to serve our customers’ building needs. We have three new team members to introduce this spring.  The team will continue to offer kitchen design, drafting, doors, windows, decking and building materials. Stop in and say hello when you’re in Mount Horeb!

  • Jeremy Plautz – Jeremy is the Lumber Department Manager with Do It Best and has been with us since November 2023. Jeremy recently retired from the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources. His past work experience includes working on a framing crew. He is excited to begin this journey and work with the team to provide excellent customer service.
  • Jamie Orloff - Jamie has been with us for 12 years. She offers blueprint drafting/design to our customers and provides whole home estimates. She works in sales to provide a variety of building materials including windows, doors and decking! As our most tenured staff member, she is the glue for the lumber desk!
  • Chris Koltz - Chris has  worked on our lumber team since 2018 and has 22 years of experience in building material sales. Chris specializes in kitchen and bath design.
  • Taylor Boley - Taylor joined our Lumber team in October of 2023, where she specializes in kitchen and bath design. Her favorite part of working for Premier Cooperative is that she gets to work on a wide variety of projects and learn more about the industry.
  • Dan Holler - Dan manages our lumber yard and has 46 years of experience. He provides sales, procurement, and delivery of lumber to our contractors. He is often thought of as the face of the lumber team, having worked in the area for years and completed countless building projects in the community.
  • Chase Brauns - Chase grew up in Mt. Horeb and has worked at our Do It Best hardware store for two years. He recently transitioned to sales at the lumber desk and is excited to work in building materials.
  • Brianne Schulenberg - Bri has worked at Do It Best since 2010. She worked as an associate in the hardware store and transitioned to the lumber desk in 2020. She provides customer service and processes invoices/receivables in lumber as well as hardware.

We are excited to help you design and build the home or business of your dreams. Stop in to see us!

Every year, I get fooled by some article on milk pricing and the forecasters predicting the price that we will see in the future. They take on the nearly impossible quest of prediction with the same confidence of the newscaster reading the weather on my tv, and we all know how that went this spring. In February the mailbox price was in the $15 cwt range and now, fast forward to June, we are around $19 cwt. On a 600-cow dairy, that’s about $75,000 a month difference equating to just under a cool million in a year. How does your farm handle this volatility? I don’t think there’s a magic cookie cutter answer in how we manage this, and it appears volatility is here to stay in commodity prices.

By the time you receive this newsletter, Independence Day will have gone by. I hope you enjoyed the day off. I should have done this in last month’s newsletter but let me give you some fireworks advice in case you have left over munitions. The most important thing to remember is after you light the fuse, Mr. Fireworks is no longer your friend. Then, while fleeing, don’t zig when you should have zagged. Now you know.
