Propane Tank

October 2025

We had a good ending to our energy division fiscal year, so I’m glad I’m still here this month to write this newsletter article.

Since 2020, we have increased our delivery efficiency (gallons per mile) by 17.4%. We’ve also dropped the number of miles driven by 21% comparing 2025 to 2020. That equates to 66,776 less miles this year than in 2020. In other words, we saved about 2.7 circumnavigations of the globe, conserving over 13,000 gallons of diesel fuel we would have used to power our propane delivery trucks. Less diesel consumption means less pollution. Heck, we’re saving the planet without even trying.

If you’re a will-call customer, we kindly ask that you contact us when your tank reaches 30%. This allows us to schedule your delivery efficiently and helps ensure you have propane when you need it most.
When the first freezing temperatures are forecasted, we typically see two things happen:
Many customers realize they haven’t checked their tank in a while, only to find it well below 30%.
Our scheduled delivery customers begin receiving automatic fills as their tanks reach 30%, increasing overall demand.

This sudden surge in demand can overwhelm our delivery schedule and quickly tighten supply at rail and pipeline terminals. By calling early, you help us serve everyone more efficiently and avoid delays.

To help avoid the tightened supply we currently have monitors on 60% of our propane tanks. These monitors allow us to track tank levels in real time and use routing software to plan efficient delivery route saving time, mileage, and fuel, resulting in faster service and happier customers all around.

I spent last weekend in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and I can assure you that fall is on its way. The leaves are changing color, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler. It will be here soon, so buckle up, get your furnace checked out, and replace the filter.
If you haven’t sent in your propane contract, it’s not too late. Give your local Premier energy office a call to ensure that the price hasn’t changed before sending it in. Typically, as soon as the harvest begins in the southern Midwest is when we see the propane prices getting stronger because of the strong demand for propane to dry crops. That day is nearly here.

If you are interested in contracting your diesel fuel this fall for next year or if you’d like to give us a shot at your diesel business, please contact Shane McCully at 608-504-6281.

Also, call him if you are getting a new appliance and he can get you hooked up with incentives.

Have a spooky Halloween and thank you for your business.

I hope you were able to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends. And I hope you’ve recovered from your food coma. For the 10 of you (including my mom) who read my newsletter, you’ve seen how I’ve been promoting propane gas appliances and the available rebates. A couple of years ago, I was invited to attend a webinar and the folks on the webinar were claiming that if you’re seeing electrical power outages now, it may be multiplied by up to 100 times in the future if there is no more additional electrical generation. Of course that was a worst-case scenario, but it got me thinking.

With harvest wrapped up across the countryside, it’s a natural time to reflect on the year and the results of all the hard work put into this season’s crops. From there, we start thinking about what else can be done to keep that success going.

We have recently wrapped up our latest fiscal year audit, and I am happy to report that your cooperative experienced another solid year in 2025. A notable achievement includes continued year-over-year growth from our feed division. Our energy team also maintained their steady performance and improved results over 2024. While grain farming was handed a more challenging year in 2025 with market volatility, high input costs, and trade uncertainty, the agronomy division pulled back from some of the recent highs but was able to grow volumes and services for their members. Each division ended the year with strong sales and positive earnings. Premier will report fiscal 2025 net savings of just over $15 million and total revenues at $285 million.
