As growers head into spring nitrogen applications, protecting every input dollar becomes essential - not just for yield potential, but for environmental stewardship. Corteva Agriscience's Instinct NXTGEN, powered by Optinyte technology, offers a smarter way to manage nitrogen and boost returns

Managing Nitrogen is Complex. Instinct Makes It Simple.

Instinct NXTGEN® works by putting the Nitrosomonas bacteria—responsible for converting ammonium to nitrate—into stasis. This slows the nitrification process, keeping nitrogen in the ammonium form longer, where it's less susceptible to leaching and more available to the plant when it matters most.

Unlike other products, Instinct is selective, affecting only nitrifying bacteria and leaving beneficial soil microbes untouched.

Proven, Reliable, and Ready to Perform

Instinct NXTGEN® provides:
Proven Results
  • 40+ years of performance data
  • 51% fewer greenhouse gas emissions
  • 16% reduction in nitrogen leaching
  • 28% greater soil nitrogen retention
  • 21 million pounds of nitrogen kept out of waterway annually
  • 3 million tons of CO2 reductions —equivalent to:
    • 337+ million gallons of gasoline
    • 583,714 homes’ annual electricity use
    • 646,408 vehicles taken off the road
Reliable Application
  • 24 oz/acre use rate
  • Up to 30 weeks of protection in cool soils and 8 weeks in warm soils
  • Active ingredient stays in place—it does not leach
  • Perfect for spring preplant or side-dress
Return You Can Count On
  • 5.2% average yield increase
  • Improved grain protein, standability, and dry down
  • Keeps nitrogen in the root zone for the 2025 growing season
How Does Instinct Compare to DCD-Based Products?
When it comes to nitrification inhibitors, not all active ingredients are created equal. Many competing products use Dicyandiamide (DCD), which only offers 1–2 weeks of control, requires 30x more active ingredient, and lacks data to support yield or environmental benefits.
By contrast, Corteva’s proprietary Optinyte™ technology, found in both Instinct and N-Serve®, provides:
  • Up to 8 weeks of control
  • Proven yield and environmental advantages
  • Stable, rainfast soil performance
Maximize More Than Just Nitrogen—Maximize Your Entire Crop Investment
When up to 70% of nitrogen loss occurs below ground, choosing a stabilizer with proven performance is more important than ever. With Instinct NXTGEN®, you get science-backed results, sustainability benefits, and a strong return on investment—all in one pass.

Don’t just stabilize nitrogen. MAXIMIZE IT.
Ask your local Premier agronomy team how Instinct NXTGEN® can help you protect your nitrogen investment this spring.

I hope you were able to enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends. And I hope you’ve recovered from your food coma. For the 10 of you (including my mom) who read my newsletter, you’ve seen how I’ve been promoting propane gas appliances and the available rebates. A couple of years ago, I was invited to attend a webinar and the folks on the webinar were claiming that if you’re seeing electrical power outages now, it may be multiplied by up to 100 times in the future if there is no more additional electrical generation. Of course that was a worst-case scenario, but it got me thinking.

With harvest wrapped up across the countryside, it’s a natural time to reflect on the year and the results of all the hard work put into this season’s crops. From there, we start thinking about what else can be done to keep that success going.

We have recently wrapped up our latest fiscal year audit, and I am happy to report that your cooperative experienced another solid year in 2025. A notable achievement includes continued year-over-year growth from our feed division. Our energy team also maintained their steady performance and improved results over 2024. While grain farming was handed a more challenging year in 2025 with market volatility, high input costs, and trade uncertainty, the agronomy division pulled back from some of the recent highs but was able to grow volumes and services for their members. Each division ended the year with strong sales and positive earnings. Premier will report fiscal 2025 net savings of just over $15 million and total revenues at $285 million.
