Why I Choose Purina Wind and Rain Mineral Tubs

Mineral Tub

Choose Consistent Intake

Having fed loose minerals before transitioning to Purina® Wind and Rain® Mineral tubs, I can confidently say that the Wind and Rain tubs offer real advantages, especially with today’s stronger cattle prices.

If you’ve ever walked out to a pasture after a major storm and found the mineral feeder tipped over, with two bags of mineral scattered across the ground, you already understand one of the biggest benefits. Mineral only works if cattle actually consume it. After years of watching mineral intake fluctuate, Purina’s Wind and Rain tubs, backed by extensive research at their research farm and on farm trials, have proven to deliver much more consistent intake.

Another noticeable difference is cattle behavior. Producers consistently report that cattle tend to gather around Wind and Rain tubs more than loose mineral feeders. The molasses Purina uses encourages intake, while the cooked tub design helps regulate consumption so cattle don’t overconsume.

A few important management tips to keep in mind:
• Always provide loose salt alongside tubs. It’s more economical to supply salt separately rather than in the tub.
• Placement matters. Putting tubs closer to water sources improves utilization.
• Plan on one tub for every 15–25 head, along with free choice loose salt.

Premier Cooperative carries a wide variety of Purina Wind and Rain tubs to meet your operation’s needs, including:
1. Wind and Rain tubs with Altosid® for fly control.
2. Wind and Rain tubs with Availa® 4 chelated minerals to support improved conception.
3. Wind and Rain tubs with basic mineral formulations. These are an economical option that still meets nutritional needs.

Premier is happy to deliver tubs right on our regular routes. And if you attended our winter meetings and booked early - congratulations, you saved money!

As an added bonus, tubs qualify for Premier’s patronage dividends, with checks returned to you in May and June.

Spring has officially sprung. Those April showers didn’t just bring May flowers. It brought in calls to the energy division that flooding on some of our customer’s property tipped over their propane tanks. The first thing propane tanks do when the water gets high enough for them to float is roll over. This rollover can allow liquid to reach the vapor valve. The last thing you want coming through a propane line and traveling to your house is propane liquid. It can cause a pressure surge, which over-pressurizes the piping, regulators and appliance valves. This can cause leaks and a potentially very dangerous situation.
