April 2025

The beginning of April marks the halfway point for your cooperative’s fiscal year. Except for our feed division, which operates in a high paced environment year-round, many of our divisions are ready for their busy season to kick into high gear. The changing season is the unofficial start to the busiest time of year for your cooperative. Our full-service agronomy locations are now ready to put their winter’s worth of planning and preparation into action. While some locations may have been able to get an early jump on the season with fertilizer applications, soon every location will be buzzing with all hands on deck. In the next few weeks your cooperative will ramp up to the peak employee numbers for the year.

To give an added boost to our agronomy division, we are on target to have our new Cuba City facility operational by mid April. Our teams from Platteville and Hazel Green are committed to bringing their operations together to serve our members. While the old facilities have served us well and brought us to where we are today, they have reached the end of their useful life and now are the limiting factor in growth and service. The new Cuba City plant is our opportunity to expand, better serve our members, and ultimately support our team in ways we couldn’t before.

Over to the feed business, Mineral Point is also nearing completion on their major expansion project. With loadouts, legs, ingredient bins, mixer, and receiving all in place, the final phase of construction of the warehouse and automated bagging system is now underway. While some areas of the project will be operational before others, we anticipate having full capabilities by mid-summer.

As we move into April and begin to put the past months of planning into action, this is the time for a friendly reminder about spring safety. Long days and unpredictable weather delays can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety, especially as it relates to getting the crop in the ground. Unfortunately, this can lead to accidents and more delays. Please pay special attention over the next several months to farm equipment pulling in and out of the fields and wide loads coming around the corner or over the next hill. To our producer members, be extra careful this spring. Get plenty of rest, eat right, take a short walk to unwind, and if you get behind give us a call and we’ll do what we can to help.

As always, thank you for your continued support!

Cow mineral and creep feed bookings start this month. With spring calving season approaching, now is a great time to evaluate your current mineral program for any gaps or opportunities to improve. A proper mineral program is crucial during calving to minimize issues and give calves the best start before heading to grass.

Once again, I find myself in the unenviable position of having my life being a warning to others. I slipped on some ice on December 1st and broke my ankle. After surgery and under x-ray, my ankle resembles the hardware section of the Do It Best Center. I’m hoping to be back on my feet in a couple of weeks with a great scar to help my street cred and a dull story to tell if anyone asks how I got it.
